While music has the power to draw us together, it also has the ability to make us more aware of our surroundings. Music not only enables us to be ourselves, but it also helps us to become alert of the differences of others. Think about your customs, preferences, likes and dislikes, hobbies, daily activities, relationships, and beliefs. All of these factors and more work together, like the pieces of a quilt, to form who you are and to differentiate you from others. You are a unique individual. In fact, no two people are exactly alike. Even identical twins differ in their internal characteristics. It is the differences which we possess that contribute to an enriching world in which enlightenment and growth can take place. As we learn from each other and begin to respect and appreciate each other’s unique attributes, we can begin to celebrate our differences. Music is key to raising cultural awareness. With the help of music, we are able to see the world from different perspectives. In fact, music not only allows us to experience the fluctuations between genres, but it also invites us to explore the various regions of the world through the melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic tunes which are unique to the lands. Through music, we are able to take journeys into the lives of others and see how they live, think, and act.
What Music Taught Me
Music taught me to see the good in others.
Music taught me to love my sisters and brothers.
Music taught me to value people for who they are.
Music taught me that we share common goals, whether near or far.
Music taught me that being unique is okay.
Music taught me to act and think my own way.
Music taught me to dream and follow my heart.
Music taught me to see each day as a brand new start.
