Timelessness of Music

Timelessness of Music

“There’ll Always Be Music” –
Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton

Music is not bound by limitations. A song has the power to recreate a moment, to bring you back to a special time, or to move you forward through imagination to a place where dreams come true. For instance, if you were to listen to one of your favorite songs at the moment, you may think back to such times as when you first heard the song or saw the artist perform the song live, or you may consider what it would be like to meet the artist in the future. Likewise, if you were asked what song you first danced to with a loved one or listened to while you felt like your world was crashing down, you may be able to name the song’s title within only a few seconds. When the music that we associate with impactful moments throughout our life is played, we may be reminded of how important the songs are to us and may even know the lyrics despite not hearing them for a few weeks, months, or even years. These songs often follow us along our journeys throughout life and are shared with our friends and loved ones. As they get passed down to future generations and persevere through the ages, they are considered to be timeless.

“Music, once admitted to the soul, becomes a sort of spirit, and never dies.”  –  Edward Bulwer-Lytton
