Sometimes, we go through difficulties and don’t understand why it is that life unravels the way it does. We may experience pain and heartache and feel like we don’t have the strength to carry on. Our burdens may seem greater than we can bear, and we may feel like giving up. We may even start to doubt ourselves and what we believe. Yet, it is in those times that we need to let our faith pull us through. It is at those moments that we need to stay strong and discover our inner song. We will all go through trials in our lives, but those trials will enable us to become stronger if we allow them. Each person has a unique inner song based on unique experiences encountered on the journey of life, and together our songs can create beautiful harmony. When we allow our songs to be the beat of our hearts and the air of our lungs, when we let the music breathe through us, and when we learn to genuinely express ourselves through our inner music, we can contribute to society in a way that is different from anybody else. We have the opportunity to learn from one another through the music shared by each individual. Music is limited only by the boundaries set forth by the artists, such as their creativity or willingness to share. Otherwise, it transcends all boundaries. As a form of art, it is open to expression and interpretation and is both invented and reinvented. Thus, it is can sometimes be challenging to classify music according to genre. Yet, all music has the ability to transform lives. Music helps us express what we are feeling inside because it lives within each of us, and it helps us to be in tune with ourselves; it is organic and thrives on genuineness. Music which is internalized produces external results. Most people who are able to feel the passion within the music are more likely to relate to the artistic expression. Music is the color of the heart and the fire within the soul. It is capable of expressing a wide array of emotions, and it can be interpreted in a variety of ways which is validated by each listener. Although many artists choose to express themselves through such creative means as the lyrics of their songs, expression is not only found in vocals but also in musical notes. For example, in Prince’s “Purple Rain”, the guitar riffs take the listeners to realms that cannot be defined or confined. Music is a powerful source of communication and can be enjoyed unitedly or individually. It reaches us, it touches nerves, and it speaks even when there are no words to express how we are feeling. When we don’t know how to express ourselves, we often will find a way through a song. It is important that we choose to share our inner songs with others, as when we allow others the opportunity to learn more about our struggles, victories, and how we have overcome our battles, we may be able to help them draw strength not only in learning from our experiences but also in knowing that they are not alone.
